Zsófia Bosnyák (Žofia Bosniak) married baron Michal Šeréni at the age of seventeen. The young couple settled in the castle of Světlov near Bojkovice in Moravia. However, their marriage only lasted a few months, as Michal fell ill and died suddenly. Zsófia therefore returned to her father, the owner of Šurany castle and the chief captain of Fiľakovo castle. Ferenc Wesselényi, who was at this time fighting alongside her father against the Turks, asked for her hand in marriage. After the wedding in 1630, the couple moved to the Strečno estate and settled in the manor-house in Teplička nad Váhom where Zsófia gave birth to two sons. Due to Ferenc’s busy working life, Zsófia also looked after the administration of the estate. She devoted a large part of her life to charitable activities. Together with her husband, she founded a refuge for the poor, the sick, the abandoned and orphans. The Wesselényis also became the patrons of the church in Teplička nad Váhom, which they supported generously. At the time of George I Rákóczy’s uprising in 1644, Zsófia moved to Strečno with her children, with the aim of ensuring her safety during these turbulent times. However, during her stay she contracted an illness and died at the age of thirty-four.
